Keafer walked down the halls silently muttering words to himself. The only thoughts racking his brain were “Holy crap” and “What the hell just happened?” He passed by the dining hall, hoping at least one of his friends would be in there. But no, only the random chubby kid sat at the tables. He checked the roof and pool, other popular class-ditching hangouts. He had no luck. As he made his way back to his dorm, he glanced inside the English classroom. He noticed the familiar dark curly hair at the back of the room.
“Connor!” He hissed loudly from the door. When said person did not look back, he pushed the door open ever more and ran to the empty seat behind Connor. The teacher didn’t look, for he was too preoccupied with watching the latest Blood Ties episode on the computer. “Connor!”
Connor shot up quickly his hands raised in the air. “I didn’t do it!” He yelled, his peer’s laughed and shook their heads, then returned to their work. Keafer roughly pulled him by the shoulder back into his seat.
“Relax. Geez Con-man it’s just me.” He raised an eyebrow, “Why the heck are you so jumpy?”
“No reason. You know just weird stuff’s been happening and all and I don’t know, guess it’s just got me seeing things. You know?” Connor whispered making sure his teacher, Professor Anderson, wasn’t paying any attention.
“Yea I know. In Science class I could have sworn there was something trying to come out of the chalkboard. But no one else saw it, now Mr.Gates thinks I’m crazy.” Keafer sighed heavily and slouched back into his seat. “Hey wanna get out of here and go find J.R and your brother?”
“Yea, ‘snot like I’m learning anything here.” They both stood up and ran briskly out into the hallway.
“Mr.Adams and Mr.Darthin, why am I not surprised?” Provost Carlington’s voice echoed throughout the stone building.
“Oh come off it, it’s like in my blood to get in trouble. You know my brothers’ reputations.” Connor rambled as the Provost seized both boys shoulders and began to lead them into his office. “You know I don’t like you very much, Provost.”
“Mr.Adams, if you can not keep your mouth from moving I will be forced to glue it shut for you.” James Carlington threatened, daring Connor to continue his talking.
“Consider my mouth shut sir Provost...sir.” Keafer snickered, but quickly shut it off when the older man’s eyes locked on him. Both boys sat down in front of the large oak desk, looking everywhere except in the balding man’s eyes. A knock on the door broke the awkward silence thankfully.
“Sir, you wanted to see me?” With a loud creak the door opened, and Pyker stepped in. He looked from Connor to Keafer, then back at Connor. “What did you do now?”
“Nothing! I only skipped class, but come on since when is that a crime?” Connor tried to reason with his older brother.
“I don’t care if it’s a crime or not! But you’d think with everything that’s been going on at Spencer and on the island, you could at least try to behave!” Pyker yelled, forgetting Keafer and the Provost were even in the room. He stared his brother down, him being 6 inches taller making it better on his part.
“You skip all the time!”
“Yea well I’m older.” Pyker replied sticking his tongue out at his baby brother. “Start caring more about school, okay?”
Connor sighed, but nodded. A sudden ‘bang’ caused them all to jump and look around. The window’s were all thrown open, thick fog sipping in. The smell of rotten flesh and fresh blood filled the air. It was strong enough to make to make you gag. It settled for a second, but with a blink of an eye it disappeared.
“What just happened?” Pyker asked from where he had just fallen to on the floor. Connor on his right, Keafer on his left.
“Um Provost can we go now? Connor and Keafer promise they wont do it again.” Pyker said thinking of the fastest way to get out of the office so they could discuss what had just happened.
“I gotta go to class, all this weird stuff better stop soon. It’s getting me pissed off!” Pyker screamed the last part to no one in particular. “Connor, get back to class.”
“Yes sir!” He mock saluted and marched off in the direction of his dorm instead.
“Geez, what am I gonna do with him?” Pyker asked turning to look at his other friend who had become more of a brother over the years. “Don’t you have some class to be in?”
“Nah, I’m supposed to be heading to the Nurse’s office. See ya.” Keafer waved and lazily stalked off down the hall.
The sandy haired blonde had a Math class he was due to make an appearance in. At least he could catch up on his sleep or use his time to text his brother and friends.
While he walked to room 215, Connor made a break for it to his dorm. ‘School sucks. Pyker’s being an idiot, why should we be in class when there’s something out there killing people. First Marie and now Ruby. Ruby I get but why my sister?” He thought opening his door and stepping inside the dirty room. He had clothes and text books thrown everywhere. Just the way he liked it. He slumped onto his bed and opened his new laptop and logged in.
Keafer wandered Spencer till he decided he was bored and went to the library to use a computer. He plopped down at the farthest one and logged in also.
Only 23/127 people were online, 19 of which Keafer wouldn’t dare to chat with. Missy Fontaine being one of them. After a few seconds, he saw the familiar screen names pop up:

“I knew he wouldn’t believe us.” J.R said to himself closing his laptop shut. He grabbed his gym bag and a towel, he turned to walk out when he noticed his window was open slightly. He ran and slammed it shut, thanking God that no fog had floated in. That’s what he hates about living on the Atlantic ocean was the fog. The cold he could live with, the fog was another story.
Stepping out of his dorm room, he walked down the deserted halls. It was dark outside despite that fact that it was only a bit after 12 o’clock. Spencer Academy, being an old building, barely had any heating so it was often freezing. His dorm was located on the second floor, while both Adams’ were on third and Keafer was unlucky enough to get fourth. He kept the room neat and tidy so he could always find what he wanted when he wanted.
He walked down the stair case, passing the library where Keafer was, and into to the locker room. Walking in and quickly changing into a pair of black swim trunks, he could have sworn he saw someone else in the room.
"Hello?" The air around him turned colder making him shiver. "Okay, hanging around Con and Pyk is turning me crazy. Great, now I'm talking to myself! Ah man! Urgh." He slammed his locker shut and walked incredibly quickly out .
The large pool area was empty, as it often was in January, the suns light casting rays across the clear water surface.
He walked along the slippery surface untill he reached the last swimming lane.
He walked along the slippery surface until he reached the last swimming lane.
‘Westly’
J.R jumped, briefly losing his footing, but caught himself before he could fall into the water. “What was that?”
‘Westly’
Jonathan-Riley Westly remained perfectly still, his ears straining for any sound. He could hear the water splashing against the sides of the pool, the faint falling of snow down on the roof and his own heart beating quickly in his chest. But nothing out of the ordinary any more.
Sighing and muttering inaudible sayings under his breath, he put his foot in the cool water to test it. Satisfied with the temperature, he sat down and eased his way in. Being captain of the Senior swim team meant that he had to be in top shape all year long. Even in January.
Swimming the backstroke, he swam to the end. Turning with his feet, he switched directions and started back.
‘Meus ultionis’
The eery whisper was back, the oldest shot his head up and grabbed onto the wall. He knew what that meant. He had learned it in Latin class last year. It was ‘My revenge’ in Old Latin.
“What?! Hello?!” He yelled.
Nothing.
“Who the hell are you?!”
In the corner of his eye, he saw a lone figure by the side, starring at him. Before he could react an invisible force brought him under the surface. Kicking and moving did no good in freeing himself. He peeled his eyes open, the chlorine burned at first, but then faded. The water surrounding him was no longer a deep blue, but a murky grey. Like fog.
The figure was the same one he and the others had seen the day Ruby was killed.
‘Crap. I’m in deep shit.’ He thought as his lungs began to fill with water. He continued to try to break to the top, but still could not. The force was too strong.
Smirking, the fog creature looked on with dead eyes at it’s newest “victim”. It’s lips curved into a smile when the whirlpool of struggle stopped and J.R’s blue eyes closed and he was still.
